I Wish I Could Go Back

I'm talking back to a time before autotune. A time when if you wanted to sound like a robot or a computer you had to do it yourself....manually. I've spoken to a few people recently and to my surprise, no one has a clue as to what a talkbox is. Fortunately for them [and you] I'm able to break it down. A talkbox is a device that allows a musician to modify the sounds of their device by lip syncing and changing the shapes of their mouth. The synthesizer or guitar is connected to the talkbox which is in turn connected to the vinyl tubing, allowing for the robotic/computerized sounds. Up until the invention of autotune people needed real talent to change the shapes and sounds of their voices. Now and days anyone with a computer and a mic can sound like a fake zapp or chromeo without having ever picked up a keyboard in their life. Sorry T Pain, but I think I'm going to have to agree with Jay Z on this one.
Death of Autotune.
